Apu ausangate is the Quechua name of this impressive snow-capped mountain located south of Cusco with (6388 masl / 20.958 fals) meters above sea level. Considered the highest mountain in the Vilcanota mountain range.
For the Andean man, Ausangate is considered a deity, even today they worship him by offering offerings such as the coca leaf in gratitude for being their guardian and protector and also that they consider the Ausanagete apu sacred.

EXPLORE AND DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF NATURE

Ausangate Explore has designed this wonderful five-day tour which combines four circuits in one which are: rainbow mountain, ausangate trek, 7 lagoons and pacchanta hot springs. This circuit, which is unique, is developed around the Ausangate mountain. During these five days that this trek takes place we will have the opportunity to see natural wonders such as the rainbow mountain, to see this natural wonder for yourself is to appreciate a true and perfect work of art made by mother nature. You can also see and be in the company of the Apu Ausangate, a mountain considered sacred since immemorial times, currently for the Andean people it is still sacred since it is considered a deity a protector, for which they worship offering coca leaves. This circuit also shows us other natural attractions hidden in the valleys, lagoons with crystal clear turquoise waters and some of them blue. Itinerary

Day 1Cusco Hotel | Rainbow Mountain - Hanantapata – Pucaq’ocha

This day we will start picking you up from your hotel very early in the morning and then we will start our trip by car along a paved road, which will take us to Cusipata, where we will make the first stop to have our breakfast, after breakfast we will continue our trip by car for approximately one more hour until we reach the town of Q’ayrawire where our muleteer and horses will be waiting to pick up all our equipment.

It is here in this community where our tour begins, we will start with a two to three hour ascent until we reach the summit of the rainbow mountain, arriving there we will have enough time to enjoy and contemplate this natural wonder, after having taken many photographs we will continue with our trek to the Warmisaya pass – (4,984 masl /16,351 ft.) which will take two hours of hiking uphill from where we will have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and one last view of the rainbow mountain and finally we will start with a walk downhill for one more hour and we will arrive at Hanantapata (4,697 masl / 15,410 ft) which will be our lunch spot where our cook will be waiting with a delicious lunch prepared by him.

After this lunch we will continue with our two-hour hike up to Pucaq’ocha pass – (4,906 masl / 16,095 ft) and then we will begin with a descent of approximately forty minutes to our Pucaq’ocha camp – (4,613 masl / 15,134 ft) place where we will spend the night.

Meals included: breakfast Lunch and dinner.
Minimum altitude: 3,700 masl / 12,139 ft.
Maximum altitude: 4,426 masl / 14,521 ft.
Distance traveled: 10 km / 6.213 miles
Walking time: 6 to 7 hours.
Difficulty level: Moderate.

Day 2Pucaq’ocha Camp | Ausangateq’ocha – Palomani Pass - Huchuyphinaya

This day we will get up with the first rays of the sun to be able to have our breakfast which will be prepared by our expert cook and after this good breakfast we will start this day with an ascent of two or three hours of walking towards the Apuchata Pass (4,900 masl / 16,076 ft). From there we will be able to observe the majesty and beauty of the Apu Ausangate, valleys, rivers and the absolute beauty of the Andes.

From the summit of the Apuchata Pass (4,900 masl / 16,076 ft) we will go downhill for an hour and a half towards Ausangate Qocha which will be the place of our lunch and also be able to enjoy the beauty of this Ausangate Qocha lagoon, after lunch we have three hours of hiking uphill until we reach the highest point of the route the Palomani pass (5,100 masl / 16,732 ft) from here you will see the beauty of the Andes in all its magnitude and then we will begin with the descent towards our next camp which will last about three hours and finally we arrive at Huchuy Pinaya (4459 masl/14.629 ft.), there we will spend the next night but before we will have a delicious and re-energizing dinner and then go to sleep at the foot of these majestic mountains.

Day 3Huchuy Phinaya | Qampa Pass – Pachaspata Camp

This day like every morning we will get up with a coca tea to start the day with great enthusiasm and then we will have a very good breakfast so that in this way we will start with our day’s journey, this day we will continue with a gradual ascent uphill through two to three hours and we will arrive in Suracucho, place of lunch, from we can also see the imposing snowy Qayangate and other mountains around there and finally after lunch we will go uphill towards the last pass Qampa (5000 masl / 16.404 ft). there we will be in the middle of these two enormous mountains Ausangate and Qayangate, after contemplating the beauty of this place we will leave behind the Qampa pass and we will go downhill for two hours to our camp of Pachaspata(4781 masl/ 15.685 ft) where we will spend the night there at the foot of the great apu ausangate.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Minimum altitude: Huchuy Pinaya (4459 masl/14.629 ft.
Maximum altitude: 5000 masl / 16.404 ft.
Distance travelled: 13 km
Walking time: 6 to 7 hours.
Difficulty level: Moderate.

Day 4Pachaspata Camp | 7 Lagoons – Pacchanta

This day we will have our breakfast with an impressive view of these sacred mountains, after breakfast we will continue our journey through the Ninaparayoc valley, where the 7 lagoons are located, we will observe this natural wonder and we will also be able to enjoy the wildlife and many birds that They are on the edges of the lagoons, this tour will last approximately 4 hours and finally we will arrive at the community of Pacchanta (4,286 masl / 14,061 ft), where we will have our lunch, and then after lunch you will have the opportunity to enjoy the thermo-medicinal waters located to more than 4000 m /13,123 ft. of altitude and with an impressive view of the snowy Ausangate which will be very comforting and relaxing after having walked for five days through the mountain, then later we will have our last dinner and after that if you want to return to the thermal waters you can do it for a few hours but under a starry sky.

DAY 5Pacchanta – Cusco

After having walked through the mountains, valleys and on the shores of the lagoons, this day will finally conclude our trip.

In the morning we will have a breakfast that will be prepared by our cook and after that we will depart towards Tinky, it will be about three hours of walking, when we arrive at Tinky you will be able to visit the local market to see the daily activities of modern man, then we will take our bus with direction to Cuzco which will take about three hours of travel by a paved road which is called the interoceanic road.

Upon arrival in Cusco we will leave you at your hotel.

You must bring

  • A light backpack with a change of clothes for the entire period of the trek - be prepared for a wide range of changes in temperature
  • Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or a rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco
  • Resistant footwear, waterproof trekking boots are recommended. The extra stockings can not be missing
  • sandals or flip flops are also good to give your feet a chance to breathe at night if you want to wear them
  • Warm clothing, including jacket, fleeces, gloves, scarf, and hat. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping

Before You Go:

How many days do I need to acclimate in Cusco before the Trek?

It is very important to be well acclimatized to the altitude before pushing yourself on a hike. We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least two to three days before the trek begins to help you adjust and avoid possible problems with altitude sickness during the trek. You may have already been to another area of Peru at high altitudes before arriving in Cusco. In that case, we recommend that you have a full day in Cusco to rest, recover from your trip, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Cusco before leaving for the trek. Here are some suggestions of activities to do in the vicinity of Cusco before starting your adventure trip:

Briefing or Informative Meeting

All meetings and briefings are very important, which takes place at our office or at your hotel at 5:00 p.m. one night before the tour starts. These meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. If for any reason you cannot attend our informative meeting, you must contact Ausangate Explore by email or by Whatsapp.

Trek Balance Payment (in Cusco)

The hike must be paid in full. one day before your departure (usually after the briefing). It would be greatly appreciated if you pay the balance of the trek in cash in US dollars or local currency at our Office. You can pay by credit card or PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay a 5% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. We do not accept bank checks or payment of the balance in traveler’s checks.

Strikes and demonstrations

Strikes and demonstrations are common in Peru, and this can interrupt some of our tours. Roads can be blocked and railway tracks can be taken. However, we will try to make your trip as smooth as possible. originally planned, even if it means going out the night before the scheduled date. under these circumstances, tours may also be cancelled. In case of changes or cancellations, everything will be coordinated with you and our operations staff. Your safety is our top priority and our decisions will be made to protect it.
