AUSANGATE TREK AND RAINBOW MOUNTAIN 3DAYS

Dare to discover the magic and intense colors of the Rainbow Mountain located in Peru, also known as Winincunca in the Quechua language. This magnificent jewel of the Andes offers you a spectacle of the work and art of nature. It is located in the Vilcanota mountain range, near the highest snow-capped peak in the Cusco region, the Apu Ausangate (6,384 masl / 20,945 ft.) considered a sacred deity within the Andean philosophy and worldview. From pre-Inca times to the present, this mountain has been a place of worship and offering.

DESCRIPTION

The Ausangate Trek and Rainbow Mountain tour is designed to offer you a unique and unforgettable experience in a relatively short time. You will walk on trails that cross rivers, lakes and deep valleys. You will enjoy the presence of herds of alpacas and llamas and with little luck some vicuñas while you contemplate crystal clear lagoons at the foot of this imposing and majestic sacred mountain of the Incas. Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Tinki – Upis - Arapa Pass - Pucacocha Camp

We will pick you up at the hotel at 4:00 am and then travel in a private transport for 3 hours until we reach the town of Tinky (Rodeana) (3,700 masl/12.39 ft.), where we can have breakfast and then we will start with our activity for the day, we will walk towards Upis (4,426 masl/14.435 ft.) which will be the place of our lunch, before reaching Upis we will have a magnificent and privileged view of the Apu Ausangate, upon reaching our destination our cook will be waiting with a delicious and nutritious lunch. After lunch we will continue with our walk towards the Arapa pass (4,742 masl/15.557ft.) which will take us an approximate time of one to two hours, once we reach the summit of the Arapa pass we will have a magnificent view of the majestic Ausangate snow-capped mountain and enjoy the natural beauty of the place and then we will continue our journey to our first camp in PucaQocha (4,613 masl / 15,134ft.) which will take about three hours and finally we will arrive at our camp at 5:00 pm.

Day 2Camp Pucaqocha - Pucaqocha Pass - Ananta – Warmisaya Pass – Soroni

After a formidable nutritious breakfast prepared by our cook and with an impressive view of the snow-capped mountains, lagoons and a blue sky, we begin the walk, with an ascent to the PucaQocha pass (4,906 masl / 16,095 ft.) with a duration of one to two hours of ascent uphill, from where we can contemplate the great Apu Ausangate and at the foot of it some of the lagoons such as YanaQocha, Uchuy PucaQocha and Jatun PucaQocha. Likewise, we will have enough time there to take many pictures of the place.

After enjoying the magnificent view of the place we will begin to gradually descend for two hours towards Anantapata (4,697 masl / 15,410 Ft.) which will be the place of our lunch, after a comforting lunch we will begin with a two-hour ascent until we arrive to the next Warmisaya pass (4,984 masl / 16,351 ft.) from where we can already see the famous rainbow mountain, a natural jewel of the Andes, after contemplating the natural beauty of the place we continue with a descent of one hour until we reach our next camp of Soroni (4,791 masl / 15,718 ft.) which is located near a lagoon which is called YanaQocha, home to some wild birds that usually nest there, this is where we will spend our last night before reaching our destination.

Day 3Soroni Camp - Rainbow Mountain – Llacto – Cusco

After two intense days of hard work along the Ausangate routes, the day finally arrived to discover the hidden gem in the Andes, the famous rainbow mountain and always accompanied by the great Ausangate guardian, for which we will have to get up very early in the morning. and we will try to be the first to reach the viewpoint, for which we will wake up at 5:00 am with a coca leaf mate, and then we will have a delicious and nutritious breakfast, to leave our Soroni camp in the direction of the mountain of the rainbow a hike that lasts about an hour.

Finally we will arrive at the viewpoint of the rainbow mountain or also known as WininCunca Quechua name, which is located at (5,000 masl/ 16,404 ft.) from where we will have a spectacular view of the rainbow mountain, to be able to enjoy its colors, nuances, likewise we will see a small part of the red valley and some more peaks that are around the area and far away the majestic Apu Ausangate is always stately, after enjoying this natural wonder we can also visit the viewpoint of the red valley which will be optional and then we will begin with the descent to the community of Llacto where our private transport will be waiting to go to the place of our lunch, to return to Cusco with a duration of 3 hours of travel by car, and the arrival time in Cusco will be at 5:00 pm and the service ends when you Let’s drop you off at the door of your hotel in Cusco.

You must bring

  • A light backpack with a change of clothes for the entire period of the trek - be prepared for a wide range of changes in temperature
  • Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or a rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco
  • Resistant footwear, waterproof trekking boots are recommended. The extra stockings can not be missing
  • sandals or flip flops are also good to give your feet a chance to breathe at night if you want to wear them
  • Warm clothing, including jacket, fleeces, gloves, scarf, and hat. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping

Before You Go:

How many days do I need to acclimate in Cusco before the Trek?

It is very important to be well acclimatized to the altitude before pushing yourself on a hike. We recommend that you arrive in Cusco at least two to three days before the trek begins to help you adjust and avoid possible problems with altitude sickness during the trek. You may have already been to another area of Peru at high altitudes before arriving in Cusco. In that case, we recommend that you have a full day in Cusco to rest, recover from your trip, and enjoy the sights and sounds of Cusco before leaving for the trek. Here are some suggestions of activities to do in the vicinity of Cusco before starting your adventure trip:

Briefing or Informative Meeting

All meetings and briefings are very important, which takes place at our office or at your hotel at 5:00 p.m. one night before the tour starts. These meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. If for any reason you cannot attend our informative meeting, you must contact Ausangate Explore by email or by Whatsapp.

Trek Balance Payment (in Cusco)

The hike must be paid in full. one day before your departure (usually after the briefing). It would be greatly appreciated if you pay the balance of the trek in cash in US dollars or local currency at our Office. You can pay by credit card or PAYPAL online, but you will have to pay a 5% service charge, charged by VISA and PAYPAL. We do not accept bank checks or payment of the balance in traveler’s checks.

Strikes and demonstrations

Strikes and demonstrations are common in Peru, and this can interrupt some of our tours. Roads can be blocked and railway tracks can be taken. However, we will try to make your trip as smooth as possible. originally planned, even if it means going out the night before the scheduled date. under these circumstances, tours may also be cancelled. In case of changes or cancellations, everything will be coordinated with you and our operations staff. Your safety is our top priority and our decisions will be made to protect it.
